News From the Recruitment Office

This page summarizes how Fairchild Wheeler recruits students for its three themed high schools on one campus. It supports families who are comparing the Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Engineering programs, but it does not replace the official Bridgeport Public Schools magnet application or any PDF the district labels as controlling for the year you want. When the district posts the live form, open and close dates, lottery timeline, and registration packet for the current cycle, the information on bridgeportedu.net is the source you should trust. Dates change every year, so an older packet filename may still help you understand themes and expectations while you wait for the newest file to post. If you see two different years listed between this site and the district, follow the district version. The sections below describe campus life and the general enrollment pattern so you know what acceptance would mean for daily schedules, dress, and service hours before you invest time in the online form.

OUR UNIQUE CAMPUS WITH 3 SCHOOLS

Our 360,000 square foot campus is home to three individual high schools, each with its own instructional theme. The shared campus helps teams collaborate across programs when projects benefit from mixed expertise. The curriculum for each school stays demanding and updates as new tools and industry practices change, so students keep building skills that match college and workplace expectations.

Information Technology and Software Engineering High School
Principal: Victor Black, Ed.D

In this STEM-based program, students apply a systematic approach to designing, building, and maintaining software for fields such as science modeling, gaming, animation, simulation, and theater arts. Three pathway concentrations focus studies on media production, software technology, and hardware technology.

Biotechnology Research and Zoological Science High School
Principal: Michael Watson, Ed.D

In this STEM-based program, research connects to a partnership with Beardsley Zoo and local universities, including work on amphibian studies. Curriculum heightens awareness of the environment and asks students to think about real preservation problems. Outdoor and lab spaces on campus support hands-on work. Three pathway concentrations let students focus on Pharmacology, Biotechnology, and Zoological sciences.

Aerospace & Hydrospace Engineering Science High School
Principal: Jay Lipp

In this STEM-based program, students learn to apply science and math to real design problems. Coursework uses software tools, contact with regional industry, and projects with state and local universities so students can research, design, and test ideas. Two pathway concentrations focus studies in Aerospace Engineering or Hydrospace Engineering.

STUDENT LIFE

Classes here are rigorous. Many courses were shaped with university partners and use project based routines that expect steady reading, research, and homework between class meetings. Students often work in teams of different sizes so they can practice communication while they learn content. Business casual dress is expected on regular school days, along with the lab coat when teachers require it for science and lab blocks. Fairchild Wheeler also sets community service hours that each student must complete before graduation so graduates leave with both academic strength and a record of service.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR APPLICATION

Gather the student identification and contact information the district form asks for before you start, including proof of residence if the live application lists it. Scan or photograph documents at readable resolution so uploads do not fail at submit time. Read the registration packet for the year you are targeting so you know which magnet themes exist, how pathways differ inside each theme, and how many ranked choices the form allows. Talk with your student about honest interest in lab work, software, or engineering pacing, because each theme expects steady effort once classes begin. Submit only through the official Bridgeport online portal while the window is open, not through casual email to a teacher unless the district tells you to use that path. Keep a copy of your confirmation screen or email in a folder you can find quickly. If you move or change phone numbers after you apply, update the district contact listed on bridgeportedu.net so lottery notices reach the right household. Siblings, transfers, and out of district rules follow policy for that cycle, so read the posted handbook or help page on the district site instead of trusting older social posts. After you submit, you can still use the main Fairchild Wheeler site for bell schedules, bus information, and uniform files so you understand daily life if a seat is offered.

STUDENT ENROLLMENT
Magnet applications for Bridgeport Public Schools run on a yearly schedule with fixed open and close dates. Those dates, the active application link, and lottery announcements are always published on bridgeportedu.net for the current cycle.
  1. When the district opens the window, complete the magnet application online at bridgeportedu.net using the instructions posted for that year.
  2. Applications are accepted only through the official online process.
  3. A parent or guardian must fill out and submit the application for the student.
  4. Seat offers for each themed program are made through a blind lottery. Final assignments depend on applicant pools, interdistrict rules, and how many seats remain in each school theme.
  5. Families receive results and next steps through the contact methods the district describes for that cycle, usually email or the parent portal. Read those messages carefully for acceptance and registration deadlines.
  6. All students offered a seat must have a parent or guardian register them by the given deadline or they will forfeit their seat

AFTER THE LOTTERY

If your student receives a seat, complete every registration step before the deadline the message gives you. That work often includes uploading documents, signing agreements, paying fees listed in the instructions, and confirming transportation or laptop loan paperwork when the district requires it. Read each attachment name before you upload so you do not send the wrong year of immunization or residency proof. If the school schedules an orientation or laptop pickup session, plan attendance early so you do not lose a slot that was reserved for families who completed all steps on time. If you are waitlisted, watch district communication for movement on the list instead of assuming a spot will open on its own. If you do not receive an offer, you may reapply in a future cycle when the district opens one, and you should talk with your current school counselor about backup high school options that still match your goals. For questions about Fairchild Wheeler program themes, course focus, or a shadow visit when the campus offers one, contact the recruitment office using the information at right. For password resets on the application site, duplicate submissions, or residency documentation disputes, use the main Bridgeport enrollment contact on bridgeportedu.net so staff who manage the portal can help you directly.
